You Ask and HE Gives

"Life and Death are in the power of the tongue; those who love it shall eat its fruit." Prov 18.21

You pray for a job and you get an offer for a minimum wage one. It's totally not what you want but its a job right? Sometimes it feels like God has a serious sense of humour when you get what you technically asked for.

In situations like that it is imperative that you use discernment. Is God sending this to you because He knows it's better for you or is He testing you to see if you know what you really want?

Either way, His answers to prayer are always from love, lesson or not. Like the old saying and proverbs say, be careful what you ask for.

In General Robbie Risner's autobiography, The Passing of the Night: My Seven Years as a Prisoner of the North Vietnamese, he attributes faith in God and prayer as being instrumental to his surviving the Hanoi prison experience. In his words:

To make it, I prayed by the hour. It was automatic, almost subconscious. I did not ask God to take me out of it. I prayed he would give me strength to endure it. When it would get so bad that I did not think I could stand it, I would ask God to ease it and somehow I would make it. He kept me.

Further on he added,

I could not have existed if I had not been able to pray. To be able to mention the names of my wife, children, friends or relatives, or one of my fellow POWs who I knew was being tortured or mistreated, brought us together. The thousands of miles, the walls of my cell, the guards, were all transcended by this dimension of communication [prayer].
